In 1957, West Prairie Farm started
as a dairy and grain farm. In 1986, we the dairy herd and bought two pair of white mute swans. In 1991, we bought three miniature donkeys and now have about 35 miniature donkeys of black to white in color. Currently we have 4 herd sires and 14 mature jenny’s. We are breeding for color, confirmation, easy temperament, and down in size. We have been getting smaller jenny’s. Now we have a three-year-old jenny that measures 29-inches tall at 3 1/2 years old. At the great American Sale in Lebanon Ohio we 3 jenny’s. We
have a small herd, but we have great breeding and are striving
for even greater donkeys. These little guys have wonderful personalities
and it is a great pleasure watching them grow.
We also enjoy raising white mute swans and have abut 20 young
swans. They are for sale in unrelated pairs. Our white mute swans are big and beautiful. We have five breeding pairs that we raise our young swans from. We raise about 20 young swans a year which we get from our unrelated pairs. Unrelated
means that they have different parents and are not from the same
clutch of eggs.
We are located near Belleville, Illinois which is 20 miles southeast
of St. Louis, MO and about 10 miles south of I-64. Drive south of Belleville on route
159 two and half miles to Mulligan Lane. Turn right for 2 1/2 miles and
then right onto West Prairie Road. We are the first farm
on the left.
